some mornings you just need a little Curtis Mayfield

Some mornings I need to add a dose of Curtis Mayfield to the espresso ritual, you wouldn't have thought that it would be necessary on a Friday but when you wake up thinking it's Saturday, then Curtis is of great help particularly as the day a proper begins with a Performance meeting at ten and the only thing that I am able to focus on is…"Eddie you should know better…"And lunch.

When our office was in the CBD (Central Business District) it was easy to do what lots of people do on a Friday, pop into one of the surrounding fish-'n-chips shops, get your fish (you know no meat on a Friday even only in sentiment) and walk to the public gardens, sit on the lawns or the benches and have lunch.

Every so often, me and "that other" girl would do the same thing except that instead of queuing for fish and chips, we would queue for sushi, head to the gardens and enjoy a Friday lunch in the great outdoors. It's all in the scrapbook of nostalgia now, the offices have moved and we are no longer able to go have lunch in the gardens on Fridays but we are still able to religiously get fish and chips, from our canteen, or at one of the shops closer to the Waterfront.

Canteen fish, while cheap and barely edible, appears never to have seen any ocean. This is probably from that same species of fish which produced the fur for the Russian soldiers' hats in World War II. As the soldiers had never seen any animal which had such fur they dubbed it"fish-fur" now we call it , "Friday's catch of the day." The canteen menu is more proof of you can't believe everything that you read although it will never read, "Friday: Sushi-'n-Chips, our take on confusion food."
