that mythical point on the horizon known as enough
I am feeling like a soothing bout of credit card consumption, the kind that you remorsefully wonder what happened after it’s done and how could you possibly have exceeded that mythical point on the horizon known as enough.
Big-bad-Retail appears to be (just like me), mildly and momentarily depressed. In this week I spotted the first Christmas, plastic, carry bags and it’s only the middle of September. It definitely appears that we have run out of artificial stimuli by way of “events” such as "Secretary’s" and “Grandparents” Day to arouse consumption prior to Christmas proper.
The thing about wielding your credit card these days is that you don’t even have to be anywhere specific you just have to be connected with an urge to splurge. You could act on an impulse, or an emailed newsletter which frequently catches me. My weakness is for firstly for music and secondly for books and other media, all of which has been noted in some CRM (Customer Relationship Management) programme.
What I generally don’t like about e-commerce though is the waiting for the goods to arrive, and that is why I am more inclined to buy things that are downloadable or delivery friendly. I have been purchasing a lot of music online which is great because the compression and quality is very good, and you can mix and match the latest tracks from many small labels that have now begun to digitise their catalogues.
Clickgroove and Beatport are good sites for my music taste but there are others, Itunes, Microsoft’s Zunes, beep de blah, mp4. So that’s where I am clicking towards on this rainy Saturday, far away from irritating shop assistants who want to pounce and find out if I am, “all right?”
“No I’m not, I am consuming, go away.”
Click.
