knowing when to put those sneaks on

One of the first things that I do when I get home is put on my 'Tigers' (my sneaks) because this just formally marks the end of the working day for me. My sneakers represent the beginning of my time, the end of big-bad-oil-and-gas for the day and in a dizzy kinda way it signals enough.

Today as fatigue set in, something I did reminded me of this little bit of friendly advice by Genevieve Antoine Dariaux before I made a dash for those sneakers:

Enough

A sense of moderation, tact, a recognition of one's limitations, of one's age, and even of the capacity of one's stomach, are all notions that help us to get along well in an organized society.

Good manners consist of knowing when to say:

"That's enough!"
-Knowing how to leave when your hosts yawn.
- Knowing how to refuse the third whisky.
- Knowing at what age a woman can no longer dress the way her daughter does.
- Knowing how to say 'no' to the man who wants to see you home…and to tuck you up in bed.
- Knowing how to remain silent when the conversation is beyond your depth.

And for me today it was knowing when to bolt for home, for those Tigers and that quarter-sized continental cushion - I clearly had, had enough and more.
