ac-cent-tchu-ating the positive, part 1
I have never liked familiar, I have always preferred moderately formal and wherever possible a sense of professionalism. And I am even more fussy when it comes to business communication - tone, use of language, spelling, punctuation and all of the other basics that need to be used appropriately.
Now none of this is carved in stone, when you pick the medium, you texture the style accordingly, I don't for instance want to feel like I need my lawyer to interpret every MSN text that I receive, those conversations I want to be free flowing and easy but when you are in need of a business response perhaps err on the moderately formal side when you deal with me.
I am not trying to be Dilbertian here, but there just has to be some basic rules even by way of modern living engagement. I offer you a couple of examples of comms gone wrong and additionally a good reason for why you should never have people reporting to you:
An email received for stationery…
I hope that u are well.
I am not sure how the diners are working. There is a few items that I need and I have to wait until one of the others from engineering ) are going to purchase whatever they need (stationary )with their diners. It has been made very clear to me that I am working for "A" and not "E" and they joke about it .Jokes sometimes are nice but you know to be very frank with you it sometimes really starting to get to me .I need the following items.
For the time being:
3 Pencils; Eraser; 1Fineliner red /black and blue; 3 highlighters .. different coulors Notepads.. .thats when "C" sits down with me or whoever, then I need to just scribble notes down. Files... Whenever I pull reports, I need to file them .I am currently busy with site hardening and need to pull 7 reports for "D"
1/2 clutch pencils; 1Ruler; pencil sharpener; paper clips.
If it is possible , I really need a printer .Walking up and down every day is not a joke. I need to compile reports and print them for "Ee" or "F" or "G" sometimes and I feel sometimes I am in the way of the others "D" already asked me who will be paying for that printing paper ...things like that .One never knows when they are serious .
I also think is not fair to keep on borrowing other peoples stationary. Diners..will this be possible if not, please see that I will have the following items.
Have a blesssed day
A response…
Please in future simply make a list of your stationery needs and submit it to "T" who will then action the purchase. With regard to your request for a personal printer please note that this is not warranted and I suggest that you route if possible to a closer printer.
Regards,

Creative minds and their business write, I guess you've got to just "ac-cent-tchu-ate the positive," and get on wif it.
