the dark side cometh

I spent my morning in the company of the dark side (aka Marketing) who proceeded to attempt to persuade me to go forth and embrace our latest product offering which should soon be available on service station forecourts across the country. Yes, just in time for Christmas and hopefully just in time to reclaim and even gain some market share.

They tried to simulate a film premier launch by holding the event inside of a cinema and we, the audience, all got fresh popcorn and cola to help us through the ordeal. When it was over, we got chaperoned to the lunch area where canapés were served and gifts were handed out. All of this was done to get me to move away from the notion that petrol is petrol and diesel is diesel, to the much more progressive view that proclaims that ours is the "best."

It's a grudge good folks, I'm not going jump on my soap box and sing it's praises - not for all the popcorn in the world. But I do love the dark side, they are such tryers it's almost heart warming, yes it's all smoke and mirrors but they still have to create the façade and the make believe on any given day.

Today however employee # 302 accepted all that was on offer but left unconvinced, the force "again" proved to be to strong.
