welcome to the golden age of corporate ethics
After a night of broken sleep, the last thing that I needed was to start my Friday with an ethics workshop, not even my morning Franck, an espresso blend from Zagreb, could perk me up.
We are currently experiencing, in my opinion, the "golden-age" of corporate ethics, post Enron et al. New legislation, increased awareness, dedicated resources, an abundance of literature and a growing number of dismissals for non-ethical behavior.
It certainly makes for an interesting and ambiguous work environment; a brave new employment landscape that has spawned a culture of rules and policies to such an extent that it appears that we have ethically stapled our feet to the ground.
But at 10 am my head needed a quarter-sized continental cushion and not an ethics discussion, I wondered briefly if this defrauding intellectual behavior was unethical but I never came to a conclusion.
It's that last Friday before we get paid, is it ethical to pay an employee in arrears, after 22 days of offering up their labour? It matters little when you know that your salary only gets EFT'ed on Monday and that this will be a weekend of enjoying the simpler things that life has got to offer, like 12 hours of sleep.
Enjoy the solar eclipse, bon weekend and be safe.
