preparing for a little good faith

You never realise the importance of preparation and research until you are muddling your towards a cul-de-sac wondering why you took that wrong turn. The next couple of days are thinking days, reading days, googling days, with the aim of trying to understand what is out there and more importantly to get it all to galvanise into some sort of probable solution space.

I like to be prepared, I never spent more than a year in the Scouts but the motto, “Be Prepared” somehow got stuck in my consciousness. Preparation for me can be as simple as a few drinks, like before I would go to French classes, I would have a whisky and my pronunciation would be strikingly better. Likewise before going to Tango lessons, I would (slightly) increase that dosage of alcoholic units and I would stand on less toes and dance much better.

But for work (since I don’t spike my fruit), I like to be mentally organised, because when I’m mentally organised I am more productive and focused in terms of discussion and subsequent actions.

The key to my preparation is to have just enough information but far more important is having the right people present in the room. Sounds easy, find the data, mentally churn it into knowledge and block some time in the calendars of the people that you require but this is a corporate, finding anything other than the restrooms can be quite an arduous task.

Today has been a slow (ish) data gathering day, I still not sure how I am going to get the right audience but I suspect that if I supplied a little good faith by way of a short pre-read and an offer to pay for a finger lunch, I could possibly pack them in.
