making some progress

I fondly remember the first time I used online multimedia conferencing, I was on a global call trying to share my desktop with the rest of the audience and after a couple of minutes of trying to get it going and not being sure if I was doing it properly, I heard someone from Australia say,"arh I see you, you've just come online", to which I bemusedly replied,"Unfortunately I can't see myself yet," and then proceeded to complain about the lack of bandwidth in Africa.

This morning because of my circumstance I had to give multimedia conferencing another go, I had a team meeting to get through and I finally I had those plumbers in the kitchen fixing that damn geyser.

So I logged onto the internet with my 3g datacard, accessed "Live meeting" and setup the conference together with the audio and sent out the invitation to the team. I then got on the cellphone and walked my boss through some of the basic features - desktop sharing, using the whiteboard and the management of access rights. This lasted about 10 minutes but it gave him the assurance that it worked, and enabled us to have a successful meeting, without any systems complaint.

For once technology did not failure me although the laptop's battery almost did because the plumbers had the mains down but from where I was sitting, peering out at the ocean, I can conclude that we are definitely making progress in the fields of collaborative tools, mobile technology and convergence.

Although today's hurrah is for something a lot more basic - hot water!

Tres, bon weekend and takz care.
