delegation 101.

Today I watched a dab old hand in action and in a jiffy I learnt more than if I attended the company's three day delegation management workshop, although I'd have missed out on those corporate cuff links and high carbohydrate lunches.

I was going through me email when I stumbled across a request for an increase in user permissions (rights) to a system, to which I ironically still can't log onto, anyway I decided to forward it off to my mate and before his inbox went bling! I was over at his desk to explain that I didn't have the foggiest idea of how to get this done.

"Neither do I?" he said shaking his head.

"What now?"

Then he hit FW and quickly typed -

"Can you please action as requested... Kind regards."

And as he hit send he coyly smiled and said, "Done! I don't think that she will be able to do it but you can't do everything yourself, and not on the first day back anyway... Shall we get a cup of tea?"

Delegation 101.

In the pause area after we discussed bad football, I told him that his FW request trick reminded me of this classic Bond one liner from Diamonds are Forever which I had just finished reading:

Can't you tell me something nice about my dress or something instead of grumbling the whole time about how expensive I am? You know what they say. 'If you don't like my peaches, why shake my tree?'

'I haven't started to shake it yet. You won't let me get my arms around the trunk.'

We laughed and decided that it was best to leave some of that delegating for tomorrow.
